Highline Juniors Program

2012 HIGHLINE JUNIORS Spring Program

Highline Premier FC is excited to announce the launch of the HIGHLINE JUNIORS Program. The program is a supplemental soccer program for enthusiastic, motivated boy and girl recreational soccer players in the U8, U9 and U10 age groups.

HIGHLINE JUNIORS is part of the new Washington Youth Soccer Regional Club League (RCL) Junior Academy Program.  The RCL is the highest level youth soccer league run in the State of Washington. Our Juniors Program is open to any player seeking participation in a higher level of training and match experiences.  It is suited for recreational players and parents desiring a more soccer-intensive, advanced player development experience delivered in a more structured skills development process.  The program's focus is on skills development in a fun, high energy environment.  Interested players will participate in "Assessment & Placement" sessions in order to be placed into the program.

The Spring HIGHLINE JUNIORS Program runs from February through April.  It will incorporate a combination of weekly trainings and weekend matches, small-sided games and jamboree activities within the program and with other area programs and clubs. The HIGHLINE JUNIORS Program blends the highest quality, professional-level, player-centric instruction (focused strongly on technical elements), delivered in an Academy-style model with challenging but informal games and play venues to support players' experimenting with their new skills.  The aim is to achieve a balanced growth in not only a quantitative improvement on the player's ability and confidence but also grow their passion for the game.

Highline Premier is committed to working in partnership with the West Seattle Spring Soccer Program to ensure participation in this program does not impact the other.  Parents should operate on the assumption there will be no conflicts that require families to choose between the two programs during the overlapping month of April.

The HIGHLINE JUNIORS Program coaching staff are professional instructors with extensive soccer instruction backgrounds and experience working with young players.  Our coaches will introduce these young players to the creative, individual technical skills-based style of soccer that Highline Premier teaches its older age groups. The HIGHLINE JUNIORS staff will encourage and instruct the players to develop their movements with the ball and achieve greater composure when in posssession.

Training Details
Training sessions will be held weekly at 5PM in scheduled locations in West Seattle, Seatac, and/or Highline communities and run for approximately 75-90 minutes.

Training days will be Thursdays. The primary focus of the instruction is to set a solid foundation for the participant in terms of their technical competence with the ball, inclusive of their movements with the ball, understanding of hte game and decision-making.   The tactical, physical and mental parts of the instruction will be built into the small sided games and activities that reinforce the technical instruction for each session.

Those participants that have standing conflicts on Thursday can request Friday sessions that will be done at the location of the Highline Development Academy.

Games Details

Games are an integral portion of the HIGHLINE JUNIORS Program.  Games will be held on weekends and will include a mix of small-sided games, jamborees as well as traditional MOD matches (often in a 6-a-side game format).  Match teams will be put together in a fluid manner throughout the program by the coaches.   Players will have the opportunity to play with different players on different teams in different forms of play venues without concern over a result.  This deliberate approach to the 'game experience' in the HIGHLINE JUNIORS Program helps encourage players to express themselves and experiment with their new skills without fear of adverse consequences.  Some matches that participants in the Juniors Program will experience will be against other RCL clubs.  When these spring RCL matches are incorporated into the program, they will consist of geographically based play venues around the Puget Sound. Match opportunities do not take the place of the participants' recreational team program.

Cost
$250 covers all costs for the Spring Program associated with coach fees, match fees/referees, field rentals, and a uniform.  The uniform kit for the player to keep consists of two Nike shirts, one short, and one pair of socks.

Field Locations

The address and map of the location of the fields mentioned above can be found by clicking here.

Friday Night Development Academy 50% Discount
To encourage participants in the Spring HIGHLINE JUNIORS Program to get a 2nd training in each week, each will receive a 50% discount off the price of both the friday night Winter Highline Development Academy and Spring Highline Development Academy (a savings of over $75!).  If sufficient JUNIORS Program members participate, they will be trained as a sub-group.

Why should I enroll my child in the HIGHLINE JUNIORS Program?

This program has been designed as supplemental for motivated boys and girls recreational soccer players, engaging them at early ages where studies have shown children to be most receptive to this form of instruction.  The HIGHLINE JUNIORS Program surrounds these players with a fun, supportive learning and playing environment with a higher level of professionally delivered soccer training and match experiences than otherwise available to these youth.

What is the purpose of the Assessment & Placement Sessions?
The intent of the HIGHLINE JUNIORS Program Assessment & Placement Sessions is to have the opportunity for professional instructors to assess the current level of each player interested in participating in the program.  Its purpose is also to provide a forum to educate interested families on the program so the decision whether to participate is based on quality information.  The Assessment & Placement Sessions are NOT a ‘tryout’ as is the case in select soccer.  No players are ‘cut’ during these Assessment Sessions.  Players who are interested in accessing this form of supplemental advanced instruction and play will not be prohibited.    However, ongoing placement of players within the HIGHLINE JUNIORS Program may vary based upon a variety of factors, such as the current level of the player, ability to pick up new skills and regular attendance.

Does my player have to attend all Assessment & Placement Sessions?
No.  Ideally players attend more than one Assessment & Placement Session.  If players cannot make it to more than one Assessment & Placement Session, please let the administrators know this when you arrive at the Assessment & Placement Session.

Does my player need to bring birth certificates to Assessment & Placement Sessions?
No.  Players will need a proof of birth later but not at this time.

What equipment should players bring to the Assessment & Placement Sessions?
Players should wear soccer clothes and dress appropriate for the weather.  All players should wear shin guards, bring their own properly-inflated ball and a water bottle if possible.

What is the format of these Assessments & Placement Sessions? What should I expect?
The Assessment & Placement Sessions will be run in the form of a ‘clinic’.  Following check-in, the coaches will lead a warm-up with the players.  They will then engage the players in some fun, small sided games where the coaches will be observing the players to assess their current level of play and understanding of soccer.  They may teach the players a new skill or two to ascertain how each player learns new skills.  It will be an inviting, fun experience.  Highline Premier staff will then follow up with each participant within three days after the assessment sessions conclude.

When is the HIGHLINE JUNIORS Program offered?
The HIGHLINE JUNIORS Program will incorporate Spring and Fall sessions (a summer session is under consideration).  Each session is operated as a separate, distinct program.  Participants in one are not required to do the others. The Fall program will run during September and October and will be focused primarily on Academy-style training with a few scrimmage days.    The Spring program will run during February, March and April and will be focused on both Academy-style training and more match/jamboree/games. The HIGHLINE JUNIORS Program is run designed to avoid interfering with the players’ participation in the recreational programs.

What happens after the Spring with the HIGHLINE JUNIORS Program?  Are there opportunities to continue during the summer?
The Spring HIGHLINE JUNIORS Program ends at the end of April.  While no decision has been made, Highline Premier is considering a Summer installment of the HIGHLINE JUNIORS Program. If a summer installment of this program is launched, existing participants will be first to be offered positions in this program.  The HIGHLINE JUNIORS Program is designed specifically to avoid conflict with traditional recreational soccer seasons which commence in late summer and go through fall.  The intent is to avoid making players and families choose between recreational soccer and the HIGHLINE JUNIORS Program.

Can I have my player “play up” to U8 in the HIGHLINE JUNIORS Program?
Highline Premier will allow U7 (AUgust 2004 to July 2005) play-ups to U8.  No players below U7 will be considered for this program. U7 play-ups will be considered on a case-by-case basis in order to ensure training is age-appropriate and the experience is a positive one.

How many teams will there be in the HIGHLINE JUNIORS Program?
The program is player-centric so we are not forming teams so to speak.  However, number of player-equivalents of teams formed is dependent upon interest levels.  It is currently anticipated that the HIGHLINE JUNIORS Program will have the equivalent of two-to-three teams of players in each age-gender.  However, the HIGHLINE JUNIORS Program is focused on ‘pool’ development which groups players based on ability and trains them in groups while still maintaining low player-to-trainer ratios.  When teams are formed to play matches or small sided matches and/or jamborees, they will be formed by the Juniors Program trainers.
