Black Lives Matter: A Message of Solidarity

The tragic deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and Manuel Ellis and others are reminders of the inequities that our Black and Brown communities face every day. Events of recent days have galvanized people from our local community and around the world to demand change and an end to systemic racism.

We at HPFC have taken time to reflect on our role as stewards of a community youth soccer program, serving a diverse population with regard to race, economics, religion and gender identity, among others. We have always strived to be inclusive and supportive of all our members and partners and will continue to strive for equality both on and off the pitch. We encourage members to do the same by holding others accountable and engaging in difficult conversations with your players, friends, and family.

The examples set by Jackie Robinson, Tommie Smith and John Carlos, and Colin Kaepernick all prove that sports can be a catalyst for conversation and change in our society.

We acknowledge that youth soccer organizations and leaders need to do a better job in breaking down the barriers that limit our sport from being inclusive, such as high cost and lack of presence in marginalized communities. Highline Premier FC leadership actively seeks out ways to stabilize our tuition while also heavily funding our Financial Assistance program. Additionally, HPFC trains at numerous fields throughout our wide geographic area to reach members near their neighborhoods. We understand that this is a short-term solution to a systemic problem, but we hope to improve our direct outreach and accessibility to those we may have overlooked.

At this time, Highline Premier FC wants to reiterate our values and ensure that our stance is clear. We believe human rights are paramount. We believe that no person's life is less sacred than the next. We will not tolerate anything less. Highline Premier FC stands for inclusion and diversity.

Highline Premier FC supports the mission of Black Lives Matter and the current movement. We work each day to be part of the solution.
