7v7 Phase (8U–10U)
The 7v7 phase introduces players to a game format that increases involvement and decision-making while remaining age-appropriate. With fewer players on the field, the game creates more touches, more learning moments, and clearer opportunities for players to understand spacing, movement, and basic team concepts. This format supports technical growth while helping players begin to recognize how individual actions connect to team play.
What We Focus On
On the Field
- Ball mastery and comfort in tight spaces
- 1v1 play and small group combinations
- Learning to scan, decide, and act quickly
- Encouraging creativity and problem-solving
Players are asked to try things, make mistakes, and learn from them.
Off the Field
- Building confidence and enjoyment
- Learning how to train and prepare
- Developing habits like effort and focus
- Understanding team environments
We want players who are curious, engaged, and excited to learn.
Team Formation at 7v7
Multiple teams are formed within each age group. Players are evaluated and placed based on their current readiness, experience, and development needs.
Placement at this stage reflects where a player is starting, not where they are expected to finish. Development is not linear, and movement between teams over time is normal.
Players do not need to have started soccer early to be successful in this phase.
Competition at 7v7
7v7 games provide an environment where players can apply what they are learning in training under real game conditions. Match play is structured to support development, with coaches emphasizing involvement, decision-making, and engagement across all players. Games are treated as an extension of the learning process, allowing players to experiment, adjust, and grow through experience rather than focusing on outcomes.

Success in the 7v7 Phase
Success at this stage is not defined by standings or results. It shows up in how players interact with the ball, the game, and their teammates. We look for growing confidence, curiosity, and a willingness to engage with challenges.
Success in the 7v7 phase is measured by:
- Willingness to try new skills during games
- Improved comfort with the ball under light pressure
- Increased awareness of teammates and basic team play
- Growing confidence, enjoyment, and engagement in matches
The goal is to prepare players for the next phase with a strong technical foundation and a healthy relationship with the game.
